There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features numerous amenities aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
