The actual number of Kyrgyzstan gambling dens is a fact in question. As details from this state, out in the very remote central part of Central Asia, can be awkward to get, this might not be all that astonishing. Whether there are 2 or 3 legal casinos is the thing at issue, perhaps not quite the most consequential piece of information that we do not have.
What will be correct, as it is of the majority of the ex-Soviet states, and absolutely truthful of those located in Asia, is that there will be a good many more not approved and bootleg market casinos. The adjustment to authorized gaming didn’t energize all the underground locations to come from the illegal into the legal. So, the clash over the number of Kyrgyzstan’s gambling dens is a minor one at best: how many authorized ones is the element we are trying to answer here.
We know that in Bishkek, the capital city, there is the Casino Las Vegas (a marvelously original title, don’t you think?), which has both table games and video slots. We will also see both the Casino Bishkek and the Xanadu Casino. The two of these contain 26 one armed bandits and 11 gaming tables, separated amidst roulette, 21, and poker. Given the remarkable likeness in the square footage and layout of these 2 Kyrgyzstan casinos, it might be even more surprising to find that the casinos share an address. This seems most unlikely, so we can perhaps conclude that the list of Kyrgyzstan’s gambling halls, at least the authorized ones, stops at 2 casinos, one of them having adjusted their title a short while ago.
The nation, in common with the majority of the ex-Soviet Union, has experienced something of a rapid change to capitalism. The Wild East, you could say, to allude to the chaotic circumstances of the Wild West a century and a half ago.
Kyrgyzstan’s gambling dens are almost certainly worth checking out, therefore, as a piece of social research, to see money being wagered as a type of civil one-upmanship, the aristocratic consumption that Thorstein Veblen talked about in nineteeth century America.
